Westchester moms, are you packing your bags and heading to a sunny beach for Spring Break? Lucky you!

Whenever I am leaving Mount Kisco and heading to a beach I can guarantee you that I am daydreaming about the family photos I plan on taking before I even leave my house.

I am a total beach lover and it is one of my all time favorite places to photograph my kids.

Read on to discover all of my favorite tips on how I get candid images that are filled with emotion.

Stormy Skies

Bummed because of a cloudy beach day? A storm rolling in can create a dramatic background so take advantage! And if it starts to rain? Keep your camera protected but keep shooting! Watching your kids dance around in the rain at the beach will be a core memory.

Let's Go Fly a Kite!

When we are going to the beach, packing a kite is a must for me.Not only are they fun to play with, but they also make a great prop. Experiment with letting your kiddo run with a kite or capture them trying to jump up and grab it like we were doing here.

Move Around

Play around with your angles! Don't be afraid to move around to change the composition. Pretend you can't zoom so you actually have to change where you're standing to get the image you want. Try getting up high or down low. Just try and change things up and don't be afraid to get creative!

Sunset

Watching my kids run freely on the beach is a beautiful sight anytime of day, but it becomes magical as the sun goes down. Let your kids simply play and prepare yourself for dramatic skies. Ask them to race the waves or jump over them if you need some inspiration!*If you're using your iphone to take the photos, tap the screen where you want the camera to expose for as the lighting is changing quickly.

Add Depth

Experiment with the foreground of the photo. Capturing part of a tree, flowers, rocks or beach umbrella can make your image more interesting and intentional.

Moms, be in the Photos

The pattern is undeniable. As moms, we are not in enough photos. I love this photo of me and my family, but you know who loves it even more? My kids. These photos aren't just photos. They are visual proof and memories of times shared. As time passes, these images will become more and more priceless. Be a part of the memories, be in the photos.

If that means handing your phone to your partner and telling them what to do, great. If that means setting a self-timer, I am all for it.

Just make sure you include yourself in the memories. ❤️
